20121124-092632.jpg Using loose materials: graphite dust, sumi inks and dyes along with water colors I created an emotional effect to the piece. My goal was to show the innocence of the young maiden with the sin taste of the poison apple. Grimm group show will open on The First Friday of December 2012 For more information and artwork inquires please contact Gina at Blackbird Studios

Draw, Draw, Draw and “Fighting”

Above: Photo by Becky Bosshart

I spent my Friday at Emergency Arts. It’s a fun place to visit, friendly Baristas and you get to catch some cool galleries and workspaces for some artists. I met some awesome folks and drew two people. My first subject was Mr. Jerry Misko. Jerry’s a Las Vegas native, born and raised. His father was imported to Las Vegas for work, he was a Pitboss at a Casino.
Jerry is a painter. He’s very personable and a very hardwork artist. I have to admit it took me sometime to capture him.

Above: My pile of drawings were stacking up!

I was able to produce two drawings which I think came out interesting. My favorite drawing of him:

My favorite drawing of Jerry, he looks like a samurai warrior here. "Jerry Misko, FIGHTING!"

My second subject for portrait is of Ms. Becky Bosshart. Becky’s awesome! She grew up as a Military Brat, traveling often. She was brought to Las Vegas for writing. She is a graduate student at UNLV where she is studying journalism.

Becky in peaceful muted grey, and burst of high contast of Oranges!

My pile of Becky’s of drawings.

Drawing of Becky reading the LV SUN.

Becky has a very beautiful neck line. She was reading while I was drawing her.

Drawing, Drawings, More Drawings

My project is moving along, very quickly. Having more and more interesting people to draw! Just one of my many projects this year.

Drawings of PJ.

First session with PJ, super fun to paint!

I drew some drawings of Jessica Galindo. Jessica’s a painter, jewelry designer and stylist. I love her Leather jewelry work!.
She’s awesome and super sweet! Here’s a sneak peak of one of my drawings of her, she looks very Manga Girl here.

“Las Vegas’ Storyteller, Mr. Norm Clark

Today, I just finished a drawing session with Mr. Norm Clark. Norm started his writing career as a Sports Writer.  One MARCH 4th (for his observation of the play of word, “March FORTH!” being a perfect day to GO FOR IT! ) he then moved to Las Vegas and became of one of the icon writers from RJ, covering the growing Las Vegas’ scene.  He is one of the most personable and nicest people I have met.  He’s a super great person!

Invention of Style, part 2

THE EXERCISE: The core

Work studies and experiments, Model: Heather and Husband.

The life work is based on live models, who are often in movement rather than a stationary pose.  These drawings are the exercises or experiments to my later work.  This work helps me problem-solve my use of loose materials such as graphite, dyes and paints. These exercises are the core, or foundation, of my work.  Without my studies from life, emotion and movement I wouldn’t have a finished piece.

Mirror-Twins Imagery

In my work, I focus on drawing the pureness of mark-making (the act of drawing). I use a minimalist style, intuitively driven by pure emotion. I usually work very slowly and carefully, but at any given point I will work in very fast burst of energy. removing lines and carefully choosing which lines should be seen in the finished pieces. I erase and cover my work in many layers.

The drawings are intuitively driven by pure emotion. I can work very slowly and careful, but any given point I will often work in fast burst of energy.

This end of the year and early next year. I’m working on an “Untitled Portrait Project”. I will be working from life. Las Vegas is full of life. I’ll be drawing people of Las Vegas which include artists, jewelry and fashion-artisans, technology-geeks, performances including burlesque dancers, yoga instructors, air-force workers, and more!
